About AuthorsOwen BarberContributors to this anthology who are brave enough to reveal a few personal details are:-
Owen is an enthusiastic member of the group who loves to write in strong rythms and play with word association through rhyme. He is a very prolific poet and song writer who is now turning his hand to stories and comedy sketches.
Pat Claxton
During her time with the group, Pat wrote her autobiography. Her family lived here in Sheffield for generations and her story was not only about herself but also the history of Sheffield early in the Twentieth Century. It is a fascinating tale, as this extract will show.
Joyce Harrington
Until last year (Mar 2001), I would have described myself as the most senior member of Abbeydale Writers. Now I find that the dubious honour goes to another member, by a short head.
I'm a lifelong book person and a lover of words. I soon turned to poetry as a means of expressing emotions and happenings. My only attempt at published work, "Wordfall" takes its title from an included poem, "Words fall into a ball."
That says a lot I think.
Pat Huck
<>It is with great sadness that we announce Pat's death on the 11th November. He was, until last year a very regular member and contributor to the Group's activities. All members counted an evening in which Pat read his work as a special treat indeed.. He covered some daring scenarios with the greatest decorum and most proper narrative style but nevertheless always had us on the edge of our seats.. We have already missed him for at least a year but we still have as his memorial his contributions to our annual anthologies over the past ten years.
Thank you Pat for sharing some time with us..
John Leah
John was another member of the group to write his autobiography. He led an interesting and often hilarious life in Hull and Sheffield.
He has told his story in his own special, idiosyncratic way. This is the beginning.
Very sadly John died last year and we all miss him a lot. We are hopeful that his family will give us permission to publish further extracts, after we've deciphered them, of what is a fitting memorial to him and a lasting encouragement to others.
Bob Lockett
I've been a member of Abbeydale Writers since nineteen ninety four, during which time, I've written over a hundred short stories and seven novels. The Stories are predominantly light hearted horror, whereas the novels are crime thrillers laced with plenty of dark humour and social observation. In my most recent novel I have extended my range of subjects to include sex, violence, gothic architecture and vegetarian cookery evenings in the most succinct way.
Although I've had the odd nibble of interest from the world of publishing and literary agents, I have yet to secure a deal. I'm in no way bitter.
In an attempt to widen my audience I have agreed to place some work here. This site will at least allow me to impose my corrupt, distasteful ramblings on all those who enjoy such things.
