Welcome to Our Website.
We're New (Well, only two years old!)
Because we are a writing group, above all else, our writing is the most important part of our pages. We are well aware that there are all sorts of very clever things that can be done on Web pages, but we are also aware that such things can be very easily overdone. We've now learned how to put their pictures onto our pages. So, where they are available photographs of our authors are now included on the "Authors" pages
Why Are We Learning As We Go?
We'll let you into a secret! The Millenium Fund has given us a grant which is to be devoted to getting our authors published both in the conventional sense and, also, to set up a Website so that they can also be published in this most modern of ways. The contribution is gratefully acknowledged and we hope that the results we achieve with this Website will stand as an All-Time marker for their encouraging support.
But, there are timescales applied, quite reasonably, to the application of the funds they have provided. In consequence of this, as amateur Webbers, that is to say "We do it in our spare time," - we do not have the luxury of becoming experts before we establish our site.
What Are Our Plans ?
Initial.
To provide entertaining writing set out in easy to read, uncluttered pages.
We started in 2001, by showing you work from our Anthologies which, since 1991 have been published annually containing prose and poetry. We are currently displaying work by current or more recent members.
The prose is mainly short stories which are presented in varying formats. We have extracts from people's life stories and there is a regular contributor, Chris whose bizarrely humorous stories regularly cause aching sides and not a few tears of laughter amongst the group.
The poetry content has very diverse forms both in subject matter and construction. There is no shortage of "real" poetry, which rhymes or of that which doesn't. But we think you'll find tangible quality present in whichever of these poetic forms you prefer. We think, too, that the quality of our poets might even tempt you across boundaries that before you've considered immutable.
Future.
We hope that, after you've sampled our "freebies" (at present the entire Site contents), you will ask to see more and wish to make a payment for other offerings from our writers. There'll always be some freebies of course, but in our efforts to get a bigger slice of the cake for talented authors, we'll have a system where you can read the start of a novel, or a sample of poetry or short stories by a given author and then be able to pay to see the rest.
We realise that when this facility becomes available there'll be some visitors who may lose interest. We feel sure, however, that by that time, many visitors to our site will have become lasting friends. As we said on our Homepage, most of us would feel a bit special if we knew for sure that we had helped a new author who has a lot of talent to become a worldwide success!

Pranks.
We know that there's plenty of scope for people who like practical jokes and who have lots of technical expertise to use our pages as a medium for these. Could we ask kindly, that you don't do it to us.
We are trying to help people with different talents from those which you undoubtedly possess, to make a name for themselves. By not practising on us you too will be helping with our objectives.
Our thanks to you in advance.
And now, please enjoy Abbeydale Writers' Website.
